Isaiah 55:10-11 Matthew 6:7-15
Two years ago, I was at a very lost place in my life. For having so many amazing blessings around me I was still feeling alone. I participated in the Christ Renews His Parish retreat and it was a life-changing experience for me. The line from Psalms 34:18 “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit,” truly encapsulates the heart of my journey. It is amazing how over time, as you surrender your anger, sadness, and shame to God, you can experience His peace and love, knowing you were never alone. After truly placing my trust in the Lord, it allowed me to trust in myself again and realize my own inner strength and courage.
In Isaiah chapter 55:10–11, the passage speaks of the power of God's word. It is not only life-giving but purposeful. “Just as from the heavens, the rain and snow come down, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful.” Even when we do not see immediate results we trust in God‘s timing, as it is His not ours. This lenten season I am reflecting on my own spiritual growth; as the passage reminds us, just like the rain that nourishes the earth over time, God's word will accomplish his purpose in us if we open our hearts to listen and accept.
As I read Matthew 6:7-15 I realized how powerful each line of the Lord’s Prayer is if we take the time to examine it. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Forgiveness can indeed be one of the hardest things to do, as it is a choice, and is especially difficult when we are carrying pain. But with prayer, gaining insight into forgiveness can open the door to Hope, which can allow your heart to heal, and for reconciliation, not just with others, but with yourself too. As we continue this season, I hope we all can release our anger and hurts, trust in God’s mercy, and become instruments of His peace in the world.
Q: What healing do I long for?
